About the Role:
The External Budget team is seeking highly skilled individuals to support the Director and Assistant Directors in performing a critical function within the Department. The successful candidates will have responsibility for managing funding sources, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of the Commonwealth Budget process, and negotiating new policy proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain departmental and administered estimates in the Central Budget Management System.
* Develop procedures and documentation for key External Budgets functions.
* Assist in maintaining budget trackers and promoting data discipline.
* Contribute to the development of costings for New Policy Proposals (NPPs) required for Cabinet submissions.
* Record and action Estimate Memorandums released by the Department of Finance by the due date.
* Support internal and external briefing requirements, including Senate Estimates processes.
* Interpret the Budget Process Operational Rules and Estimates Memoranda, providing advice to stakeholders.
* Contribute to the preparation and consolidation of the Department's Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) and Portfolio Additional Estimates Statements (PAES).
* Liaise with internal, portfolio entities, and central agencies on external budget matters.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in the external budget process within an Australian Government entity or the ability to acquire knowledge quickly.
* Understanding of the Australian Government's financial framework and accounting practices in a public sector environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
* Experience with the Australian Government Budget process or accounting qualifications are highly preferred.
* CPA/CA certification or working towards professional certification.
