Learning Officer EAL/D Role
This position involves leading and supporting the development of effective English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) practices in secondary schools.
About The Job
The role contributes to the strategic Uplift program by enhancing teacher capacity and supporting best-practice pedagogy for EAL/D learners. It requires strong collaboration with instructional coaches and key personnel in schools to strengthen literacy and language learning.
Responsibilities:
* Implement the use of ESL Scales and EAL/D Learning Progression to support consistent assessment, monitoring, and instructional planning for newly arrived EAL/D students.
* Collaborate with school leaders and teachers to design and deliver professional learning that builds teacher confidence and capacity in EAL/D instruction.
* Maintain centralised documentation and manage resources, policies, and compliance to ensure consistency and quality of service delivery.
Requirements
* Qualifications in education, with specialist training or experience in EAL/D or ESL.
* Deep understanding of EAL/D pedagogies, assessment tools, and evidence-based literacy strategies.
* Proven experience supporting teachers and leading professional learning initiatives.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across diverse school contexts.
* Commitment to improving outcomes for students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
