Position Information

Blakehurst High School is a highly successful co-educational comprehensive school. The student population is approximately 1020 students, with 580 students who have English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D), 16 Aboriginal students and 24 International students. The school's staffing entitlement is 71.9 teaching staff and 13.2 school administrative and support staff. The ratio of beginning to experienced teachers is 12.73%. Blakehurst High School has a history of strong academic excellence with the delivery of outstanding evidence based teaching and learning programs. It is a dynamic school with a strong student voice and many leadership and extra curricula opportunities. The school enjoys the support of its diverse community and has successful partnerships with the University of Technology, University of Wollongong, E.L.I.T.E Table Tennis Club, St George Basketball, Kogarah Cougars, St George Basketball, Connells Point Rovers Soccer and St George Rugby League. The school is the largest representative in the St George Sporting Zone and many students compete at regional and state level. The school is strong in performing and creative arts, participating in regional dance ensembles, State Choir ensembles, and Schools Spectacular. The school holds an music open night annually and musical performance biannually. The majority of the school's equity funding will be used to support initiatives in the 2024-2027 School Excellence Plan.


Selection CriteriaApplicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
* Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively as a member of the school executive team to plan, implement and evaluate initiatives that drive excellence in learning, teaching and leading.
* Demonstrated expertise in leading evidence-informed teaching and assessment practices to support the progress and achievement of all learners in PDHPE.
* Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of collaboration and high expectations to inspire, develop and lead staff at different career stages and support student wellbeing, engagement and positive transitions.
* Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to strengthen positive partnerships with the school community to enhance student opportunities, and high-level organisational skills to lead the implementation of efficient systems and processes.

General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
