Position Information
Lugarno Public School is located on the banks of the Georges River in southern Sydney. The school has an enrolment of approximately 263 students, with 48% from a language background other than English. The main language groups represented include English, Greek, Macedonian, Mandarin and Arabic, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the school community.
The leadership team comprises a Principal, four Assistant Principals (including an Assistant Principal Hearing) and an Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction (APCI). The school has a strong commitment to leadership development, with a structured approach to building a pipeline of future leaders through a shadow executive model, where staff are mentored and provided with authentic leadership opportunities.
Lugarno Public School is engaged in the Clarity Learning Suite in partnership with schools across the Georges River Network, supporting a sustained focus on school excellence. Teachers are committed to implementing explicit teaching and evidence-based practices, supported by a strong culture of collaboration. Structured time and resources are allocated to enable teachers to plan together, analyse data and engage in ongoing professional learning, with a continued emphasis on feedback and capacity building. The school also hosts the Itinerant Support Teacher Hearing service, providing additional opportunities for collaboration and shared expertise.
The school promotes a culture of belonging, where student wellbeing is a priority and every student is known, valued and cared for. A comprehensive, whole-school approach to wellbeing is embedded through practices such as Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and Bounce Back. Targeted support is provided through a Student Wellbeing Support Officer and school counselling services. Selection Criteria

* Proven capability as a highly visible, consultative and relational leader with outstanding communication skills, who builds trusting and collaborative partnerships across the school community to broaden opportunities and strengthen a positive, high-expectations whole school culture.
* Demonstrated capacity to lead the development and implementation of a high-impact, student-centred School Excellence Plan (SEP) aligned with equity, excellence and the NSW Plan for Public Education to drive measurable improvement in student growth, wellbeing and achievement.
* Demonstrated expertise in building teacher and leadership capability through coaching, instructional leadership, explicit teaching, professional learning and data-informed practice, fostering collective efficacy and sustained whole-school improvement.
* Demonstrated capacity to lead a whole-school approach to student learning and wellbeing that ensures every student is known, valued and cared for, using evidence-informed and data-driven practices to engage all students in their learning and drive improved student outcomes.
General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education.
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs.
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community.
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning.
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning.
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2026.
