Head of equipment, planning and asset services

State Government of Victoria, Australia

Offer description

Location: CFA State Logistics Centre Scoresby

Full Time | Fixed Term 5 Years

PESES 1

CFA is a community-based volunteer emergency service that places the community at the centre of everything we do. We work to protect lives and property across Victoria, every hour of the day.

More than 51,000 volunteers across 1,200 brigades provide services to the community, enabled by staff across headquarters and district-based locations. We value the different skills, experience and viewpoints that people bring, because they strengthen how we operate and support the services Victorians rely on.

We aim to be a workplace where people feel supported in doing meaningful work, developing professionally, and contributing to outcomes that matter to the people and places we serve.

About the Role This newly created role presents a unique opportunity to enhance the future of asset, equipment and logistics services across one of Victoria's largest emergency service organisations.

Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and Environmental Services, the Head of Equipment, Planning and Asset Services will provide leadership across CFA's personal protective equipment and clothing, supply chain and logistics operations, asset management, infrastructure planning and organisational asset compliance functions.

Leading a multidisciplinary team, you will drive the development and delivery of contemporary asset and infrastructure strategies that ensure CFA's facilities, equipment and resources are fit for purpose, sustainable and positioned to support communities across Victoria. You will oversee the lifecycle management of critical assets and protective equipment, guide future infrastructure investment and planning, and lead the operational performance of CFA's State Logistics Centre.

The role has significant responsibility for the stewardship of public resources, ensuring investment decisions align with organisational priorities, government expectations and long-term operational requirements. You will lead procurement, contract and supplier management activities, ensuring strong governance, contractor performance, quality assurance and value-for-money outcomes across a diverse portfolio.

Working within a complex public sector environment, you will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policy, asset management frameworks and accountability requirements. You will also contribute to organisational planning and decision-making, helping CFA maintain a modern, resilient and sustainable asset portfolio that supports emergency response and community safety across Victoria.

As a key member of the Infrastructure and Environmental Services Leadership Team, you will contribute to enterprise-wide direction, influence organisational outcomes and foster collaboration across CFA, government and industry stakeholders to deliver services that support volunteers, employees and the communities we serve.

About You You are an experienced executive leader with a proven track record in asset, equipment, logistics, procurement and infrastructure management within large, complex service delivery environments, ideally within government or other public sector organisations. Combining strategic thinking with strong operational leadership, you have driven organisational improvement and delivered sustainable outcomes that balance operational requirements, community expectations and the responsible stewardship of public resources.

You bring expertise in asset management, procurement, contract management, risk management and organisational planning, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications. You have a strong understanding of public sector governance, accountability frameworks, legislative obligations and procurement requirements, with demonstrated experience delivering value-for-money outcomes and managing contractor and supplier performance across complex portfolios.

Highly collaborative and influential, you build strong relationships across government agencies, industry partners and service delivery stakeholders. You navigate complex environments with confidence and are skilled at leading organisational change, business reform and continuous improvement initiatives. Your ability to analyse complex information, make sound evidence-based decisions and maintain a strong customer and community focus enables you to deliver outcomes that support organisational objectives and the communities we serve.

Diversity and Inclusion CFA is committed to creating and maintaining a diverse, inclusive, and safe volunteer and work environment. Our aim is to have a volunteer and paid workforce that reflects the community it serves. First Nations people, women, people of all ages, with disabilities and culturally and linguistically diverse people are encouraged to apply.
