Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is a Victorian Government statutory authority. Our role it is to facilitate integrated and ecologically sustainable management of natural, cultural, and productive landscapes. The Mallee CMA region covers 3.9 million hectares - about one fifth of Victoria. It is the largest catchment area in the state and runs along the Murray River from Nyah to the South Australian border, and south through vast dryland cropping areas and public reserves. About the opportunity As the Floodplain and Statutory Approvals Coordinator, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how development and floodplain management are carried out across the Mallee region. You’ll assess and set permit requirements, review applications, and provide clear, expert advice to local government on floodplain development referrals under the Water Act 1989 and the Planning and Environment Act 1987. This position offers the chance to apply your technical expertise while also leading and collaborating with partner agencies in delivering the Mallee Floodplain Management Strategy. You’ll also take on a senior role in supporting the Incident Control Centre (ICC) during Mallee flood events - directly influencing how our communities prepare for and respond to emergencies. This position is up to 1.0 FTE, with a salary range of $92,031 to $100,137 pro rata, plus superannuation. About you To be successful in this role you will have: An appropriate tertiary qualification in town planning, engineering, environmental management and/or natural resource management. Sound knowledge and understanding of statutory approvals, including permits, referral and advice associated with waterway and floodplain management and cultural heritage. The ability to provide flood intelligence in an Incident Control Centre during regional floods, with extensive experience in the Australasian Inter-Service Incident Management System. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to build and maintain partnerships with local government, water corporations, and other key stakeholders. Proven organisational and time management abilities, capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team to meet stringent deadlines, managing competing priorities to deliver high-quality outcomes in complex and dynamic settings. Demonstrated ability to solve problems of a complex nature. Demonstrated ability to model the Mallee CMA’s and the Victorian Public Sector values and behaviours.
