Junior-Mid Level | Financial Technology
expertech are seeking a Quantitative Software Engineer to join our growing team at Elevia. This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong academic foundation in mathematics or a related quantitative discipline who wants to apply first-principles thinking to real financial problems.
You will work closely with senior engineers and the firm's principals to help build and maintain the data and application infrastructure that underpins our investment and analytics platform. This role offers broad exposure across the full development lifecycle, from system design to implementation and ongoing optimisation in a technically rigorous, intellectually curious environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong programming ability in Python, with deep familiarity with the data science ecosystem (e.g. pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn)
Excellent academic background in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Physics
Postgraduate qualifications (Master's or PhD) are highly regarded
Solid understanding of database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL), including data modelling, performance optimisation, and data integrity
Experience building or maintaining data pipelines and backend systems for analytical or data-intensive applications
A rigorous, first-principles approach to problem-solving
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and operate effectively with minimal supervision
Australian working rights (essential)
Desirable Skills & Experience
2-4 years' experience in a large financial institution, quantitative firm, or similarly data-driven environment
Prior exposure to financial markets, trading systems, accounting data, or financial modelling
Experience integrating external financial data sources (e.g. Bloomberg, Refinitiv, proprietary feeds)
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production system monitoring
On Offer
Direct impact on the firm's technical architecture and strategic direction
Exposure to complex financial problems across multiple asset classes
A meritocratic culture that values intellectual curiosity, rigour, and independent thinking
Opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers rather than being siloed
Little to no red tape and ability to make things happen
Flexible working arrangements with a focus on outcomes, not hours
