As the business continues to strengthen its operational capability, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to step into a pivotal role within their Northern NSW based team.
Working closely with the Payroll Operations Manager, senior leaders, and broader finance and HR functions, this role oversees the delivery of accurate, compliant and timely payroll services across weekly and fortnightly cycles.
With three direct reports based on site, the Senior Payroll Officer will provide day-to-day guidance, support and development to ensure a high-performing, customer-focused payroll function.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end payroll processing to ensure payments are delivered accurately, on time and in line with contracts, Awards and legislative requirements;
Maintain and reconcile payroll records, including taxation, superannuation, leave and overtime data;
Interpret and apply Industrial Agreements, providing expert payroll guidance to internal stakeholders;
Monitor and implement changes in legislation, ensuring ongoing compliance and robust risk management practices;
Prepare payroll summaries, reports and analytics to support operational decision-making and cost management;
Drive process improvement in partnership with the Payroll Operations Manager and broader leadership;
Oversee team capability through training, coaching and effective workflow delegation;
Foster strong relationships across internal departments and relevant external bodies.
Success Profile
Extensive experience in payroll management within a high-volume, multi-site environment;
Strong knowledge of Modern Awards, payroll tax, WorkCover and broader employment legislation;
Experience liaising with government agencies and superannuation clearing houses;
High-level financial and analytical capabilities, including month-end reporting and fringe benefits (FBT) calculations;
Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and problem-solving skills;
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships;
Advanced computer literacy, including proficient use of Excel for reporting and analysis;
A proactive, improvement-focused mindset aligned with the organisation's values.

This position is based in Inverell, NSW, and may require additional hours during peak periods to meet operational deadlines.
