Duties of the Role
Professional Development
Maintain clinical competency through ongoing training, accreditation, and self-reflection.
Develop and maintain the required competency practice standards contained within the Council of Ambulance Authority's Professional Paramedic Competency Standards (PPCS).
Participate in mentoring and teaching activities for students and graduate paramedics.
Operational Readiness & Equipment Care
Conduct pre-shift checks on vehicles and equipment and comply with reporting requirements.
Ensure cleanliness, safety, and readiness of all gear and environments.
Maintain drug security and present fit for duty.
Deliver high-standard emergency care and transport.
Conduct dynamic risk assessments to ensure scene, patient and personal safety.
Administer treatments and medications ethically and professionally.
Make evidence-based clinical decisions and operate safely in mobile environments.
Communication
Use effective interpersonal skills with patients, families, and other stakeholders.
Communicate via radio, mobile data terminals, and other tech per QAS protocols.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals for continuity of care.
Teamwork
Actively contribute to team performance and unity.
Collaborate with broader regional network and contribute to regional performance targets and service delivery standards.
Build collaborative relationships across QAS and other services.
Professional Conduct
Adhere to QAS standards and uphold the expected code of conduct at all times.
Comply with legislation, policies, and ethical guidelines.
Maintain honesty, integrity, and impartiality in all actions.
Reporting
Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with requirements.
Report patient history and treatment to hospital staff.
Lead and manage staff emergency management efforts and promote respectful workplace culture.
We're looking for people who have:
High standard of clinical knowledge to provide effective pre-hospital patient care.
Proven clinical reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills to assess patients' needs and review patients' health care records to determine best care alternatives.
Demonstrated effective and appropriate skills in communicating information, advice, instructions and professional opinion to colleagues, patients, their relatives and carers.
Proven ability to work as an effective member of a team and actively assist fellow team members towards the achievement of organisational goals.
Demonstrated capability in upholding the expected standards of conduct and performance required by the QAS.
Planning and organisational skills to effectively manage time and prioritise workload, with the proven ability to manage stress and maintain performance under pressure, without a negative impact on self or others.
Demonstrated computer literacy skills for the effective use of available technology.
Demonstrate a personal commitment to maintaining medical, physical and psychological wellbeing in order to safely undertake the duties of the Paramedic role.
