Natural Resources Planner role at Wodonga Council. Full-time permanent role. Salary $51.42 per hour + superannuation. Great work-life balance, Versatile working options available.
Responsibilities
- Environmental advice and compliance: Guide the balance between growth and conservation by assessing planning applications for compliance with native vegetation and biodiversity regulations. Provide clear, practical advice to developers, applicants, and Council teams, ensuring projects move forward while protecting Wodonga’s environmental values.
- Policy and strategy development: Lead development and delivery of strategies such as the Wodonga Retained Environment Network (WREN), the Hills Strategy, and an Urban Forest Strategy to strengthen biodiversity, support climate resilience, and embed sustainability in planning and design.
- Stakeholder engagement: Work with landholders, government agencies, developers, and community groups to achieve environmental goals and build understanding, collaboration, and long-term stewardship of Wodonga’s natural resources.
- Project delivery and funding: Manage on-ground environmental projects, secure external funding, and monitor compliance with vegetation offsets and permits, including bushfire management planning and biodiversity initiatives.
What we’re looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in environment/conservation ecology/natural resources management and/or town planning at degree level or equivalent.
- Extensive experience liaising with Council and external bodies including landholders, community groups and government agencies relating to environmental/land management and development matters.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team and handling diverse and complex environmental planning and/or consultancy projects.
- Extensive experience implementing the Victorian Native Vegetation Planning Provisions (Guidelines for the removal, destruction or lopping of native vegetation).
