The Career Opportunity:
Lynas Kalgoorlie is seeking a quality-driven, motivated and experienced Senior Chemist. Reporting to the Chief Chemist you will supervise, co-ordinate and prioritise the daily activities of the highly skilled Laboratory Analysts, to safely perform accurate routine and non-routine sample analysis, on time.
You will use your vast knowledge and experience in analytical techniques and high-tech equipment to collaborate with peers, develop or improve analytical methods, coach, mentor and support the laboratory analysts.
The Lynas Kalgoorlie laboratory (KLAB) is a high-tech analytical facility and the lanthanides in our rare earth concentrate come with their own unique set of dissolution and spectroscopic challenges, presenting opportunity for you to operate in a challenging and rewarding environment with ongoing method development and process improvement opportunities.
This Goldfields-residential permanent opportunity will be offered on a 5 on: 2 off and 4 on: 3 off, 10-hour dayshift roster.
As the 2IC to the Chief Chemist, the tasks you will be responsible for, but not limited to:
* Leadership & Development: Coach and mentor laboratory analysts, enhancing technical competency and performance against KPIs.
* Operational Excellence: Supervise daily workflow to ensure safe, accurate, and timely (TAT) sample analysis, acting as the key point of contact for technical troubleshooting.
* Safety & Compliance: Uphold Schedule 26 statutory requirements and champion a "Safety First" culture, including managing the 7S program and risk assessments.
* Quality Assurance: Ensure rigorous calibration, SQC, and Round Robin testing, maintaining high standards for all analytical data and reporting.
* Strategic Support: Act as the 2IC to the Chief Chemist, leading production meetings and identifying opportunities for operational improvement.

About you:
* A Tertiary qualification in Chemistry, or a similar relevant discipline.
* Previous experience in a similar-level role within a mineral’s laboratory of a continuous metallurgical processing operation.
* Knowledge and extensive prior experience in using and problem solving in XRF, ICPOES, ICPMS instruments and techniques.
* Prior experience in supervising and mentoring laboratory operations and staff.
* Exposure to water treatment analysis.
* Previous Research and Development (R+D) or method development experience.
* Sound technical report writing skills.
* Statutory Schedule 26 Supervisor accreditation.
* Ability to produce high quality data and reports for stakeholders across the business.
* Unwavering approach to a collaborative environment with strong safety leadership and excellent housekeeping.
* Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under varying settings, with self-motivation abilities, taking initiative, working both independently and within the team.
* Resides within the Goldfields region for our residential opportunity (relocation package on offer).
* Possesses Full Australian Working Rights and able to commit to the full-time 5 on: 2 off and 4 on: 3 off, 10-hour dayshift roster.
