Job Description

At The Sunrise Project, we believe in the power of people to solve the climate crisis. We’re building a bold, people-powered movement to prevent fossil fuel exports and speed up the transition to renewable energy.

We are hiring a Lead Organiser and two other Organiser roles.

We’re looking for passionate organisers to join our team — people who love connecting with communities, growing volunteer power, and driving campaigns that make real change.

Whether you’re stepping into an Organiser role or leading the charge as a Lead Organiser, you’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that’s committed to justice, equity and impact at scale.

All roles are critical in supporting volunteers, building grassroots power, and driving high-impact campaigns.

You can apply for any of these positions through a single application form. You will be able to indicate a preference for either or both roles in the application form.

What You’ll Do

In all roles, you’ll be helping to scale our organising work by:

Implementing organising strategies aligned to campaign goals in collaboration with the team

Recruiting, training and supporting volunteer leaders and teams across multiple regions

Coordinating and delivering regular training sessions, team meetings, and skill-building opportunities

Building and maintaining robust relationships with key stakeholders including local leaders, allied organisations, and community groups

Using digital organising tools (e.g. SupporterBase, NationBuilder) to manage volunteer data and communications

Tracking and reporting on organising metrics and adjusting tactics based on impact

Contributing to campaign planning and cross-team collaboration

Integrating AI for volunteer onboarding, tailored training, and engagement monitoring

All roles require:

Demonstrated experience leading or supporting volunteer teams to achieve campaign goals

Strong facilitation and training skills

Proficiency in using organising software and CRM tools

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Strong AI proficiency or willingness to learn

Commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion

Detailed job descriptions are available here for the Lead organiser and here for the two Organiser roles.Salary for the Organiser positions is $93,860 - $106,287 p.a negotiable depending on experience.

Lead Organiser – Additional Responsibilities

Depending on experience (including unpaid and other experiences) and capacity to take on responsibility, the salary range is $118,716 - $131,261 p.a negotiable.

In addition to the shared responsibilities above, the Lead Organiser will:

Lead the development of an organising strategy in line with the campaign goals and working with movement partners

Lead a small team (2–3) of Organisers to deliver high-performing, data-driven organising programs

Develop and oversee training programs and support materials for volunteers and organisers

Create scalable organising systems from volunteer recruitment pipeline to leadership development programs that increase capacity

Oversee implementation and use of digital tools (e.g. SupporterBase and NationBuilder) to manage volunteer data, events, and communications

Lead strategic planning of organising activities across multiple campaign pillars

Foster cross-campaign collaboration and share organising best practice across teams and with core campaign partners

Utilize data analysis and program evaluation tools to continuously refine organising efforts, coach team members, and improve campaign impact

Pioneer an AI strategy for the organising team to ensure effective and ethical use of AI to build people power and increase impact

Lead Organiser – Additional Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The Lead Organiser role also requires:

Significant experience developing and implementing scalable organising strategies, ideally at a national or statewide scale, including sophisticated project management skills

Proven success managing and coaching organisers to deliver on ambitious goals

Strong training design and facilitation skills
