The Weipa Town Authority is currently seeking a permanent part-time Library Officer to assist with the daily operations of the Hibberd Library for approximately 30to33.5 hours per week. This role includes alternating Saturdays, school holiday shifts, and occasional extended operating hours.
What the role entails;
Reporting to the Communities Supervisor, you will be responsible for:
General circulation duties, including operating the library management system and other information technology as directed, including, but not limited to: returns, loans, overdue books, inter-library loans and reserves;
Library technical services (data entry, prepare new items for addition to the collection, shelving, repair damaged library materials, participate in stocktaking and deleting stock) as required.
Providing timely and efficient service to customers including:
High interaction with the public; assisting library patrons with computer / printing;
Informing patrons of library membership benefits;
Assisting library patrons with book recommendations
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with community groups and other local organisations;
Maintain and strengthen partnerships with the State Library of Queensland and effectively navigate the Rural Libraries Network.
Working with State Library of Queensland to report and deliver grant expenditure.
Actively support the engagement and continued involvement of parents with children in First 5 Forever and other library programs.
Plan and deliver interactive children’s education sessions (e.g. Baby Wiggle and Giggle, Rock ‘n’ Rhyme Time, and craft activities, including school holiday programs), incorporating singing, dancing, rhymes, and reading of picture books
Delivery of First 5 Forever outreach programs
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Previous administration experience and relevant qualifications, along with strong customer service skills
Provide a consistently high level of customer service in a community-focused environment
Well-developed time management and prioritisation skills of own work
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well in a team and autonomously.
Passion, drive, and initiative, with the ability to identify tasks, contribute ideas, and see them through to completion
Confidence working with groups, with the ability to lead programs including Storytime sessions, and engage children and families through singing and interactive activities
A strong appreciation and understanding of library services and the value they provide to the community
Sound level computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite to Word / Excel)
A current Queensland C (Car) class driver licence
Working with children check (blue card)
