About Moorditj Koort

Moorditj Koort is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation supporting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Western Australia. We deliver community-led programs in primary health, chronic disease, SEWB, aged care, early years, and health promotion.

Our vision is to contribute to healthy and flourishing Aboriginal communities through culturally secure, holistic, and community-driven support.


About the Role

We are seeking a committed Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Officer to deliver culturally safe, evidence-based health promotion aimed at reducing smoking, vaping and tobacco-related harms among Aboriginal people in the Northam region.

You will:

* Deliver culturally appropriate health promotion activities, workshops and community forums
* Support smoke-free homes, workplaces and community spaces
* Increase understanding of the dangers of smoking and benefits of quitting
* Promote smoking cessation supports and healthy choices
* Build strong community networks to support prevention and cessation activities
* Deliver outreach, pop‑up stalls and events (e.g., NAIDOC, World No Tobacco Day)
* Strengthen referral pathways and partnerships across health and community sectors
* Collect data, contribute to reporting and support evaluation of the TIS program
* Assist in training and capacity‑building of team members
* Represent MKAC in community settings with cultural respect and professionalism

This is a hands‑on, community‑facing role where you will walk alongside families, Elders and young people to encourage healthier lifestyles and smoke‑free environments.


What You Bring


Mandatory Qualifications

* Qualification in Health and/or Health Promotion (e.g., Cert IV Health, Diploma Health Promotion, Nursing, Public Health, Community Health)
* Training and Assessment or similar (desirable)


Essential Skills & Experience

* Experience working with Aboriginal communities
* Knowledge of tobacco harms, cessation supports and prevention strategies
* Strong yarning, communication and relationship‑building skills
* Ability to deliver community education and public health messages respectfully
* Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
* Competence in data collection, reporting, and Microsoft Office
* Ability to manage projects and support continuous improvement


Other Requirements

* WA Driver's Licence
* National Police Clearance (≤3 months)
* Working With Children Check
* Vulnerable People Check
* COVID-19 vaccination
