Maintenance Project Officer – Water Network
Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced Maintenance Project Officer to join our Water Network team. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability, safety and performance of Council’s water and wastewater assets, supporting essential services for our community.
About the Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Planner, you will provide specialist technical advice and support for the investigation, scoping, planning and coordination of maintenance works across Council’s water and wastewater assets. You will work across preventative, corrective, reactive and capital maintenance activities, supporting field staff and contractors to deliver safe, compliant and high-quality outcomes aligned with Council’s Strategic Asset Management Plan.
Key Responsibilities
* Investigate, scope and plan maintenance activities across water network and treatment assets
* Prepare detailed job scopes, documentation and CM/PM work orders using digital maintenance systems
* Provide high-level technical advice and troubleshooting support for asset faults and failures
* Analyse asset performance data and operational trends to inform maintenance strategies
* Coordinate and oversee contractors to ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards
* Support and mentor staff in maintenance management systems and processes
* Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve service and performance targets
About You
You are a technically capable professional with solid experience in the water industry and infrastructure maintenance. You demonstrate the ability to plan and coordinate moderately complex maintenance activities, analyse operational data, and deliver practical, evidence based solutions. You are safety focused, well organised, and confident working with a broad range of stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Trade qualification or relevant experience in the water and sewer industry (e.g. Plumbing, Fitter or Water Industry worker)
* Significant experience in water and sewer operations, maintenance and construction activities
* Experience supervising or coordinating moderately complex technical projects
* Strong understanding of asset management and maintenance planning practices
* Well-developed problem-solving, time management and communication skills
* General Construction Industry Safety Induction (White/Blue Card)
* Current QLD ‘C’ Class Driver Licence (or ability to transfer within three months)
