About the client
My client is a national industrial manufacturer–distributor, part of a global group with a broad customer base across primary industries and commercial markets. The organisation has a strong safety culture, a stable demand profile, and a pragmatic approach to continuous improvement and reliable service.
About the role
You will lead the Townsville site end-to-end: people, production, maintenance, safety, and day-to-day contractor activity. A key focus is continuous improvement —standardising routines, removing bottlenecks, tightening housekeeping, and tracking simple before-and-after measures so gains are sustained. The role is hands-on, with clear accountability for performance, cost, and compliance.
Key responsibilities
* Set the daily plan across receivals, processing/packaging, and dispatch to meet output, service, and quality targets.
* Lead a core team and scale labour during higher-volume periods; set rosters, coach supervisors, and manage performance.
* Plan and deliver maintenance with internal staff and contractors; schedule shutdowns and manage critical spares.
* Drive improvement in changeovers, workflow, and visual standards; embed standard work and simple metrics.
* Manage the site budget (operating and small capital), raise purchase orders, and report weekly/monthly on safety, production, and downtime.
* Ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements; lead incident response, investigations, and close-outs.
* Work closely with Supply Chain, Safety, Finance, and central Engineering to align schedules and priorities.
* Prepare concise, costed proposals for minor upgrades with clear payback and delivery timelines.
About you
* Have led operations for a manufacturing/industrial/logistics site or a sizeable department (e.g., bulk handling, building products, chemicals, food, ports, utilities, heavy FMCG).
* Visible leader on the floor; confident coordinating contractors and delivering brownfield works while the plant runs.
* Proven experience shifting maintenance from reactive to planned and using maintenance/enterprise systems for work orders, inventory, and reporting.
* Comfortable managing a site budget and delivering small capital projects.
* Clear, practical communicator who brings solutions and follows through.
* Trade or engineering background valued, not essential.
