Overview
Capability Partner (People Business Partner) – Kraken, Melbourne, Australia.
Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe. Kraken powers innovative global developments in energy. We are a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. We’re looking for a PeopleOps Lead to join our team and support our people across Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. In this role, you’ll support managers and leaders across the region, helping them build strong teams, supporting growth and development, and delivering a consistent, high-quality employee experience. This is a strategic and hands-on role, ideal for someone excited about shaping the future of work across diverse geographies and cultures. You’ll work closely with our global PeopleOps team and local leaders to ensure our people feel supported, empowered, and connected—no matter where they are.
What you’ll be doing
- Enabling our people: provide managers with tools, resources, and support to lead their teams with confidence.
- Help teams navigate performance conversations, growth opportunities, and, when needed, tough decisions or uncomfortable topics—always with empathy and fairness.
- Work with global career development and performance frameworks to apply and adapt them to the local context.
- Leading mobility and cross-team movement: ensure employees have a great experience relocating, going on secondments, or moving between teams and countries; act as the go-to facilitator for mobility questions and cross-border coordination in APAC.
- Driving people strategy: prioritise and roll out PeopleOps initiatives with global PeopleOps and regional leaders; use data, insights, and feedback to shape approaches to performance, engagement, and team development.
- Coaching and team design: coach leaders through team changes and leadership challenges; support mediation and conflict resolution; collaborate with L&D; to shape learning programs based on field insights.
- Championing culture and wellbeing: monitor wellbeing and engagement; implement inclusive, people-first practices aligned with global values; lead or support initiatives that foster belonging across remote and hybrid teams.
- Jumping into strategic projects: participate in global PeopleOps initiatives; support integration when new teams join; represent Kraken in external people-focused events or partnerships in the region.
You'll thrive in this role if you…
- Have senior experience in the People space with a strong focus on the APAC region (especially Australia and New Zealand).
- Balance strategic thinking with execution.
- Have strong knowledge of employment practices and labor laws in Australia and New Zealand; experience in Japan is preferable.
- Are a strong communicator who regularly reports to and updates the People and Capability team across the globe.
- Are a great coach, listener, and problem-solver—especially when things get tricky.
- Love building strong relationships and working across cultures and time zones.
- Are comfortable in a fast-paced, remote-first workplace and enjoy working with autonomy.
Why you’ll love working here
- Impact from day one: Your work will shape the experience of our teams across three dynamic markets.
- A values-driven team: We care deeply about people, inclusion, and creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.
- Flexibility & trust: We’re flexible, results-focused, and committed to work-life balance.
- Growth & connection: Through coaching, mentorship, and global collaboration, you’ll always be learning and growing here—we’re manager-led, helping shape and support our people through connection and collaboration.
