Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Cook role based in Brisbane, QLD. The Cook will plan, prepare, and cook nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with menu guidelines, dietary requirements, and relevant health regulations. Daily tasks include managing food preparation, portioning, and timely service, as well as accommodating allergies, cultural preferences, and special dietary needs. The role involves maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen, including dishwashing, waste management, and routine cleaning of equipment and surfaces. The Cook will order and rotate stock, monitor food costs and storage, and work collaboratively with center leadership and educators to support healthy eating practices and a positive mealtime environment.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience in commercial or institutional cooking, ideally within an early childhood, school, or similar care setting.
* Knowledge of nutrition for young children and ability to plan balanced, age-appropriate menus that consider allergies and special dietary requirements.
* Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards, with relevant certifications (e.g., Food Safety Supervisor or equivalent) preferred.
* Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet meal service times, and maintain accurate records.
* Ability to work collaboratively with educators and leadership, communicate clearly with team members, and respond professionally to feedback from families and colleagues.
* Commitment to health and safety, including safe food handling, equipment use, and adherence to regulatory and center policies.
* Capacity to work on-site full time, perform manual tasks such as lifting, standing for extended periods, and operating kitchen equipment safely.
* Current Working With Children Check / Blue Card (or eligibility to obtain), and willingness to undertake any required background checks and training.
