About the role
The Occupational Therapist works with both young parents years) and their children, to improve child development and parenting outcomes. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the coordination, development and delivery of child and young people focused assessments and interventions that take into consideration the complexities of the family background and current situations that are experienced by young parents engaged in the program. The role includes the assessment of children's development using Ages and Stages Questionnaire screening tools (ASQ/ASQ: SE); provision of tailored intervention plans to address identified delays, delivery of parent education to assist young parents to better understand and support their child's development, upskilling of staff in YPP Child Development initiatives.
You will bring
* Excellent understanding of child development needs, assessment and implementation strategies to support children and families, particularly in vulnerable communities and for children with complex needs and behaviours
* Understanding of adolescent development and best practice working with young women and men with complex needs and behaviours, and demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and issues facing young parents (aged and their children
* Excellent client motivation skills, particularly with young people with challenging behaviours and a history of non-engagement with services
* Demonstrated understanding of best practice in parenting newborns, toddlers, and young children.
Mandatory Requirements
A clearance to work with Children and a current Driver's Licence is require for this role. Valid registration on the Residential Care Workers Register.
