As Victoria’s leading wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation, we receive over 160,000 requests for help each year and assist more than 97,000 animals across 455 species. Every day brings new challenges, new learning, and the opportunity to make a real difference.
About the Travelling Veterinary Service
The Wildlife Victoria Travelling Veterinary Service is the state’s first mobile veterinary service dedicated to the clinical care of native wildlife - both at the point of rescue in field, and in DEECA approved wildlife shelters. Our team also provides expert veterinary response during statewide emergencies and catastrophic events, such as bushfires, floods, heat-stress events and disease outbreaks.
About the Role
We’re seeking experienced Veterinary Nurses with a passion for wildlife to join our Travelling Veterinary Service based in Nunawading.
Working from a fully equipped 4WD vehicle (complete with mobile x-ray and anaesthesia machines), you’ll respond to wildlife cases as a first responder in field, as well as provide nursing care to wildlife cases across the volunteer wildlife rehabilitator network. The role involves assisting our wildlife veterinarians with the assessment, triage and case management across all species of Australian native wildlife. While deeply rewarding, this role also involves the humane euthanasia of severely injured or unwell animals - a vital part of our commitment to reducing suffering. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in training and may be called upon to join emergency response teams in times of natural disaster or other major events impacting wildlife.
About You
* We’re looking for compassionate and capable professionals who:
* Hold a minimum Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
* Have veterinary nursing experience with Australian native animals
* Have a caring and mature personality able to engage with and support Wildlife Victoria’s volunteer workforce
* Can stay calm and composed in challenging situations while showing empathy to animals and people
* Are adaptable and prepared for the unique demands of mobile fieldwork, including time on the road and managing uncertainty
* Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Have a current Victorian Driver Licence
* Are vaccinated (or willing to be vaccinated) against Rabies/Lyssavirus and Q fever
