We are seeking an experienced and motivated Roads and Transport Engineer to help plan, design and deliver safe, reliable and future-focused road and transport infrastructure for our community.
This is a hands-on role with real impact, from improving local roads and footpaths to managing capital works programs and responding to community road safety concerns.
What you'll be doing
From shaping long-term transport strategies to delivering projects on the ground, this role puts you at the centre of how people move safely and efficiently around our city. You'll combine technical expertise, project leadership and collaboration to deliver real outcomes for the community, including:
* Planning, designing and delivering road and transport projects, including renewals, upgrades and capital works programs.
* Providing technical advice on roads, traffic, parking and transport engineering matters.
* Managing projects end-to-end, including procurement, contract administration, construction oversight and reporting.
* Preparing designs, feasibility reports, tender documentation and consultant briefs.
* Drafting letters, reports, and public communications to ensure clear, accessible information is shared with residents and stakeholders.
* Contributing to asset management planning, grant applications and data-driven decision-making.
* Working closely with internal teams, government agencies and the community to deliver practical, safe outcomes.
What you'll bring
You're a practical problem-solver who enjoys turning complex engineering challenges into safe, workable solutions that serve both the organisation and the community. You'll bring:
* A strong background in civil engineering, with relevant qualifications or hands-on experience delivering road, transport or civil infrastructure projects.
* Proven capability in road asset management and project delivery, from planning through to construction.
* Confidence managing projects, budgets, risk and safety in live environments.
* The ability to inspect works, provide clear feedback and adapt designs during construction when needed.
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders, consultants and internal teams.
* A data-informed, digitally capable mindset that supports sound decision-making.
You'll also need: a current National Police Check, Tasmanian driver's licence and Construction Industry White Card.
