Australia's firearm regulations are widely regarded as a global benchmark, yet systematic gaps remain and addressing them is key to preventing future firearm related tragedies

On 1 July 2024, the National Firearms Register (NFR) Implementation Program commenced. The NFR will function as a unified system information from existing Commonwealth, state and territory firearms registries, portals and management platforms into one centralised database. This will provide national oversight by providing a clear end to end view of firearms, ownership and licensing information across all states and territories. The NFR will enhance police and community safety and improve law enforcement capability

About the role:

The Policy/Projects Officer will play a central role in delivering the Victorian component of the National Firearms Register by providing comprehensive project management and policy support. Working closely with project leads and key stakeholders, the successful applicant will have excellent communication and collaboration skills, have exceptional stakeholder engagement and demonstrate experience in governance, reporting and project lifecycle processes in the public sector to ensure the smooth implementation and success of the project.

Your duties will include:

Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of discussion papers, briefs and submissions, to contribute to the development and delivery of policy initiatives and project monitoring and evaluation.

* Source, collate and compile data and information to identify emerging issues and track and report on project progress against established milestones and deliverables.
* Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings, and stakeholder consultations to support project completion and policy implementation.
* Coordinate governance and advisory group meetings, including planning, facilitation, and reporting.
* Prepare and review policy advice to ensure alignment with policy directions.
* Undertake research and analysis, review and develop policy options, to identify trends and prepare reports to inform decision making and to ensure quality standards and project outcomes.

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

* Proven experience coordinating projects, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage timelines, tasks, and risks, effectively.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with confidence engaging stakeholders, facilitating meetings, and keeping teams aligned on progress.
* Ability to support evaluation and reporting by tracking milestones, interpreting data, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
* A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to balance competing priorities and thrive in a high-performance, purpose-driven team.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong track record of high-quality written reports and presentations.
* Demonstrated motivation, self-reflection and commitment to learning.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and professional judgement.
* Ability to adapt existing skills and knowledge to new situations.

Further Information:

* One (1) x full-time, 3-year fixed term position available.
* This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
* Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
* The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
