Downer is seeking a proactive and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the day‐to‐day management of our laboratory and its team, ensuring all testing activities comply with relevant quality systems, NATA accreditation requirements, and internal standards. Based out of Somerton, you will work closely with production teams, supervisors, government agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver accurate testing, reporting, and technical advice.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage daily laboratory operations, ensuring all testing and reporting complies with NATA requirements and internal quality systems.
* Oversee and conduct quality control testing for asphalt, aggregates, sands, and other raw materials, including data entry, verification and reporting.
* Maintain laboratory equipment, calibrations and accurate testing documentation in line with accreditation and IMS requirements.
* Provide technical advice to operations teams, including recommendations on mix design, process improvements and compaction feedback to field crews.
* Monitor raw material compliance, liaise with suppliers and clients and support internal and external auditing activities.
* Drive safety, continuous improvement and cost‐efficient laboratory performance in alignment with Downer's Zero Harm and business objectives.
What You'll Bring
* Experience in quality control testing within a laboratory environment.
* Previous work in a NATA‐accredited laboratory (highly regarded).
* Strong understanding of asphalt, aggregates and bituminous surfacing preferred.
* Ability to work autonomously and lead a small team.
* Strong communication, organisational and problem‐solving skills.
* Good numerical and data management capabilities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internal systems.
* Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
