Philip Chun is appointed as the Airport Building Controller for federally leased airports across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, ACT, and Western Australia working closely with airport operators and the Australian Government.
The Opportunity
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior Building Code Consultant / Airport Building Controller to join our Airport Building Control team based in Mascot, NSW.
This senior role combines technical leadership, statutory authority functions and mentoring of junior staff. You will act as an Airport Building Controller across a diverse portfolio of aviation projects, from early design through to construction and occupation, while mentoring and leading a high-performing team.

The Role
In this role, you will:
* Perform the statutory functions of an Airport Building Controller and/or Principal Certifier.
* Assess applications for, and issue, building approvals under airport-specific legislation.
* Undertake detailed BCA / NCC assessments and prepare technical compliance reports.
* Review and assess performance-based solutions across all building classes, liaising with fire safety engineers and Fire & Rescue NSW as required.
* Carry out inspections and audits of new and existing airport buildings and infrastructure.
* Attend stakeholder meetings and provide clear, practical regulatory advice.
* Provide high-quality written and verbal advice to clients and government stakeholders.
* Prepare operational and compliance reports, including quarterly reporting to the Department.
* Lead the day-to-day operation of the Airport Building Control office.
* Mentor, train and support technical and administrative team members.
* Maintain strong working relationships with airport operators, consultants and government agencies.
About You
You will bring:
* NSW Registration as a Building Surveyor – Unrestricted or Building Surveyor - Restricted (all classes) with the ability to act as an Airport Building Controller.
* Eligibility to obtain the required airport security clearances (Australian Citizenship is required).
* Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
* Extensive experience with the EP&A Act and Regulations, NCC/BCA Volumes 1 and 2, and referenced Australian Standards.
* Working knowledge of the Airports Act and Airport Building Control Regulations (highly regarded).
* Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
* Proven experience managing complex projects and engaging with senior stakeholders.
* A collaborative mindset with a genuine interest in mentoring and developing others.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam, ABCO and Deltek Vision is advantageous.
