About the role
We are seeking an experienced Desktop / Onsite Estimator to support property insurance claims across the Northwest Melbourne and nationally. This dual role combines desktop assessments with onsite inspections, requiring strong technical estimating skills, clear customer communication, and the ability to meet strict industry KPI timeframes.
You will assess properties damaged by insurable events such as flood, fire, storm, and accidental damage, preparing accurate scopes of work, estimates, and reports while working closely with trades, insurers, and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct virtual (desktop) assessments alongside trades, maintaining clear, professional, and respectful communication with customers.
* Carry out onsite assessments to determine cause of damage and extent of works required.
* Prepare accurate reports, scopes of work, and estimates in line with insurer and industry requirements.
* Complete desktop scope validations for both local and national claims within required timeframes.
* Submit all desktop and onsite assessments in accordance with strict KPI and SLA targets.
* Develop and communicate preliminary programs of works to relevant stakeholders using purpose-built estimating and claims software.
* Review job files and associated documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Compile and submit variations and amendments to scope as required throughout the claim lifecycle.
* Ensure all works conform to legislative and contractual Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards
Adhere to insurance company and internal policies and KPI's
Skills and experience
* Strong technical building knowledge with a qualified Carpentry Trade background preferred.
* Strong time and organisational management skills with the ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to be empathetic to the needs of the customer.
* Insurance industry building experience is considered an advantage but not essential.
* Proficiency in relevant report writing software and technology (Office 365, MS Teams, Prime Ecosystem).
* Must have a current and valid driver's licence, and white card.
This role will be subject to a successful National Police Check.
Occasional interstate travel to other offices, to assist in the increased workloads following major events may be required.
