Description


The Position:

Senior Practitioners, in addition to the FCCS Counselling responsibilities, provide mentoring, leadership and practice support to other team members. The position works collaboratively across programs and services to contribute to the development of staff, practice and service excellence, including across multiple programs.

Key Responsibilities Include

* Take a leadership role in supporting the delivery and development of services under the FCCS suite including family and relationship counselling, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) including counselling, critical incident response and workplace mediation.
* Provision of Family Counselling as described under the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth).
* Provide counselling to families/children/individuals using approaches that are flexible and appropriate to the program requirements in line with Centacare NQ policies and procedures.
* Conduct assessments of complex clients and develop therapeutic goals, provide consistent, evidenced based, best practice models of counselling to meet the therapy goals.
* Demonstrate leadership by coaching, mentoring, and motivating team members to achieve program goals both within the FCCS team and more broadly
* Assisting with the induction of new staff and supporting staff in all aspects of their work
* Support and assist the Program manager as required and where appropriate and take initiative when opportunities exist. This includes program development and business planning, team building, supporting staff at meetings as directed by the Program Manager.
* Work in collaboration with other teams including support with service delivery across a range of service contexts such as education and life skills, EAP services, and other tasks as identified by the Program Manager.
* Provide support to the Program Manager and team with the development and collection of data to inform service impact and program performance
* Manage client load in accordance with targets specified in funding and service agreements.
* Establish and maintain high level, collaborative working relationships, internally and externally, that contribute towards the achievement of organisational, program and service aims and objectives.
* Actively participate in line management meetings, professional supervision, and staff days.
* Prepare and maintain statistical data and provide reports to line manager as appropriate.
* Assist with the development of policies and procedures relevant to counselling and participate in the development of organisational policies and procedures where required.
* Maintain knowledge and understanding of the application of state and federal legislation relevant to the program.
* Practice according to the Professional Practice Framework and standard of the program and organisation.
* Commitment to the mission, values, organisational goals, policy and procedures of Centacare NQ.
* Occasional travel and work outside of standard office hours.

To ensure job flexibility the role may be required to perform any other duties as nominated by Centacare North Queensland consistent with the classification descriptors detailed in the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.



Skills And Experiences


To be successful you will need:

* Relevant tertiary degree in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences with minimum 5 years of experience and eligibility for membership with a relevant professional association/body.
* Demonstrated experience in leadership including supporting change management, mentoring, diverse skillsets, participation in public speaking or delivery of presentations to groups/forums
* A demonstrated personal commitment to self-development and professional practice skills development
* Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare documents for case planning, reporting or advocacy purposes.
* Experience in delivering evidence-based therapeutic counselling interventions to formulate therapy plans, set goals and facilitate a positive approach in working with individuals to achieve these goals within established time frames.
* Demonstrated experience and willingness to provide a range of interventions including group facilitation, counselling, psychological first aid or similar
* A highly developed understanding of relevant legislation and effective service delivery models and the ability to work within such frameworks.
* Demonstrated ability to undertake risk assessments relating to suicidal ideation, Domestic Violence and child protection concerns and capacity to liaise with other agencies to ensure client safety.
* Current open drivers licence.
* Current, and ability to retain, both a Working with Children Blue Card check and Disability Worker Screening/Clearance/Card.
* An ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders children and families and other CALD families.

Desirable

* Post graduate qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling or similar.
* Experience in working effectively with diverse people and communities.
* Proficient in IT applications, data collection.
* Demonstrated outcomes in providing clients with appropriate and effective interventions and strategies.
