Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the role
Through the Tropical Cyclone Jasper Mental Health Recovery Program, the Counsellor – Community Recovery Program will provide targeted psychological support and mental health care to vulnerable individuals, families, and children in Wujal Wujal and Hope Vale who were affected by the disaster. This position is full time and fixed term, ending 30 June 2026.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Demonstrated minimum three years counselling experience, preferably working with clients who have experienced disaster related events.
- Experience using diverse therapeutic frameworks and modalities to deliver individual and group-based services.
- Demonstrated experience applying contemporary evidence-based case management, intake and assessment practices.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
- Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Mandatory requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work or a related discipline
- Certificate IV/Diploma Mental Health
- Must be eligible for membership or registration with a nationally recognised body appropriate to their relevant discipline.
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
- Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement.
- Current AFP National Police Clearance or willing to obtain prior to commencement.
