Overview
Fishability (Fishers with Disabilities) is a not-for-profit association that delivers programs and activities designed to increase the active involvement of people requiring support with recreational fishing. Fishability has, since 2000, provided fishing opportunities for Western Australians living with challenges. Fishability promotes fishing as a means of acceptance and inclusion.
Volunteer Role
Do you love to fish? Fishability is looking for volunteers who love fishing and who enjoy helping others to develop independence and experience the excitement of catching a fish. Experience with fishing is not necessary, but all volunteers must have a positive and empathetic nature. This is a great volunteer opportunity for a retired person. Commitment is required.
Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of fishing experiences for children and adults living in the community with disabilities.
* Assist with using modified rods, reels and vessel to provide a safe, welcoming environment.
* Work with a team of volunteers to ensure regular weekly activities are delivered.
* Support the program during its year-round operation, with adjustments for seasonal schedules.
Time, Commitment & Type of Work
* Regular commitment (more than 6 months).
* Disability Support, Sport & Physical Activity, Tutoring & Coaching.
* The program runs weekly for 2 hours on a Tuesday (and, in summer, on Fridays).
Training
Training is provided by the organisation.
Notes
Uniforms and all equipment will be issued following a period of volunteering. The program is delivered with a team of volunteers at Geographe Marina on a Tuesday afternoon. Be careful not to share bank or credit card details when applying for jobs, and report any suspicious activity.
