The business units are supported by enterprise-wide functions that set strategic direction, establish standards and provide governance, as well as supporting the business through shared services, centres of excellence and business partnering.Based in Perth, Australia and reporting to the Senior Geologist or Senior Project Geologist, the Project Geologist is responsible for contributing to the successful planning, management and execution of exploration activities, including technical, HSEC and administrative elements. Working with the Exploration Team, this outstanding individual will be involved in activities spanning across property-scale delineation, prioritisation and target testing using a range of methods within a greenfield environment!Responsibilities:Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresAssist in the development of exploration programs and budgets, ensuring they are successfully completed within the approved budget and consistent with good exploration practices and Teck’s internal policiesUndertake geological field work (geologic mapping/ logging, geophysical surveys, sampling, drilling) under the general direction of the Senior Project/Senior GeologistManage logistics, administration and technical execution of a given project with assistance from field technical staffApply appropriate methodologies, ensuring that technical practices and standards are accurate alongside met or exceededAdhere activities with Health, Safety, Environment, and Communities (HSEC) policies and management systems, as guided by the Charter of Corporate Responsibility, the Code of Business, Environmental and Health and Safety Practices and the EHS Management StandardsSupervise various project execution/material risk and hazard factors and take appropriate corrective action. For example, detailing emergency response plans or communicating to a supervisor in a timely mannerSupervise other geologists, technicians, field assistants and contractorsPrepare comprehensive technical reports, maps and presentation materials with clear target hypotheses, stated objectives, key decision points, results, conclusions and recommendations with high-level budget estimatesWatch for any new developments within the region including industry, government, and academic activitiesReport lead/lag indicators of health and safety activities/conditions/incidentsComplete required government or legislative documentation relevant to safety as neededAssist in ensuring all payments and reporting duties are fulfilled with respect to land tenure and agreementsMonitor project budgets daily (during active programs) or weekly/monthly (normal circumstances), reporting variance, forecasting, and highlighting significant cost overrunsRegional targeting and area selection activitiesProject management responsibilities, including management of exploration staff, contractors and project-level exploration budgetsPlanning, data collection and integration of geoscience data collection campaigns, including mapping, geochemical, geophysical and drilling programsContribute to a culture of teamwork, and encourage collaboration and open communicationQualifications:A university degree or equivalent experience in geoscience or a related field is required. A relevant, advanced degree (MSc or PhD) will be considered an assetA minimum of 5 years of relevant geoscience experience, including exposure to mineral exploration in greenfields and/or brownfields environmentsSpecific experience in geologic mapping, core logging, geochemical and geophysical applications is an assetProficient written and oral English communication and interpersonal skills to work in collaboration with a broad range of individualsProven track record to positively lead by example and manage small teams, including performance management and organisational skillsBasic experience of general management practices in an applied technical environment; e.g. finance (budget, accounting, governance), and coordinating resourcesExperience of working on magmatic-hydrothermal and/or sediment-hosted ore-forming systems and proven understanding of economic geology, orebody genesis and exploration methods from regional scale to deposit scaleAdaptability with the capacity to work effectively at a variety of scales and ability to guide exploration activities, collect and interpret data with an understanding of both deposit to district scalesSolid understanding with one or more ore deposit types in copper, nickel, +/- zincExperience in community and government relations issuesProficient experience with GIS and geological 3D modeling software including ArcPro and LeapfrogContinuously seek and accept feedback to increase awareness of personal strengths and weaknessesA motivated self-starter who regularly finds opportunities to further their own developmentAbility to look beyond initial solutions, using logic and methods to solve difficult problems optimallyFocus efforts on attaining clear, concrete, timely, measurable outcomes and monitors progress and results to exceed objectivesEligibility to work and travel in Australia is required
