**About the Role**
Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a Media Officer to join our Media and External Communications team. In this role, you will play a key part in promoting and protecting the university's reputation as one of Australia's leading institutions.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Media and External Communications, and working closely with the Media Manager, you will be responsible for writing media releases, newsroom stories, media briefs, and responses to media enquiries. You will also work closely with Swinburne's academics and researchers to position them as sought-after experts, providing commentary on key issues and major news stories.
This is an exciting opportunity for a communications professional who is passionate about media and public engagement, and who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
**About You**
**To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities**:
- Demonstrated experience in achieving earned media coverage or working in a newsroom environment
- Excellent writing skills combined with an ability to work under time pressure to produce high quality media and communications materials
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to identify and analyse emerging opportunities with respect to media and communications needs
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

**Qualifications**
Qualification in communications, journalism, or a related field and/or substantial relevant industry experience
