Job Description
Melbourne Royal is seeking six motivated and hands‐on Events Assistants to join our Competitions Team on temporary contracts to support the planning and delivery of the Melbourne Royal Show — Victoria's largest and most iconic annual community event. These roles are ideal for candidates looking to gain real experience in event delivery, agriculture, competitions, and community engagement.
* Livestock Competitions (Cattle, Sheep, Alpaca and Fleece) – 2 roles
* Art, Craft & Cookery – 1 role
* Horses – 1 role
* Dogs – 1 role
Key Responsibilities (all roles)
* Assist with setup, delivery and pack‐down of competition areas
* Support exhibitor check‐in, enquiries and general administration
* Help coordinate daily competition schedules and operational requirements
* Provide friendly, professional customer service to exhibitors, judges and visitors
* Work collaboratively with stewards, volunteers and event staff
* Ensure competition spaces are safe, tidy and well presented
* Adapt to the fast paced needs of Show operations

About You
We're looking for enthusiastic team members who are:

Desirable Experience
While not essential, the following experience will be highly regarded:
* Experience with animal handling, animal welfare awareness, or working with large animals
* Familiarity with agricultural competitions, showing, or on farm livestock environments
* Experience in horse events, dog shows, equestrian centres or similar settings
For all roles:
* Experience in events, project management, customer service or administration
* Background in competitions, community programs, or volunteer coordination
* Understanding of event day logistics or working in busy public environments

Requirements
* Availability to work all 11 days of the Melbourne Royal Show
* Ability to work additional hours in the lead up and during peak times
* Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)
* Comfortable with some physical tasks
