Overview
Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for overseeing and performing a wide range of payroll-related activities, including the fortnightly pay run, reconciliations, interpreting awards and contracts, and resolving complex queries. This position supports the Payroll Team, implements efficient processes, resolves enquiries, manages stakeholders, and ensures compliance.
Responsibilities
- Support leading the team responsible for processing the fortnightly payrun, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment
- Take responsibility for, and lead the fortnightly payrun processing in Ascender Pay
- Utilise performance metrics to ensure the delivery of productive and effective payroll services
- Serve as a point of escalation and provide technical expertise to resolve complex payroll matters
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to optimise payroll processes, systems, and service delivery, leveraging innovative technologies and practices
- Assist the Manager of Payroll Processing in the development of the team in upskilling on payroll knowledge, critical thinking and process improvement
- Assist with managing risk and workplace health and safety within the work area and ensure a safe working environment and compliance with university policies and procedures
About you
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing and payroll administration
- Experience in a high-volume customer service environment
- Sound knowledge of terminations and redundancies procedures
- Strong understanding of taxation laws and their application to payroll
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation and enterprise agreements
- Ability to apply policies and procedures
