Overview

We're looking for a passionate and experienced Principal Legal Advisor, to play a key role in Dispute Resolution at the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC).

The role provides strategic legal oversight, expert advice, and strong people leadership to ensure high‐quality, legally sound dispute resolution services. This position manages a team of legal professionals, oversees litigation and statutory reviews, and advises the Chief Dispute Resolution Officer and senior leadership on complex legal and policy matters. It builds and maintains effective stakeholder relationships across government and industry, supports priority projects aligned with organisational objectives, and contributes actively to divisional and whole‐of‐organisation leadership.

What we are looking for

* Demonstrated experience working in a senior management role in a complex and sensitive environment.
* Proven leadership experience managing legal teams, with the ability to coach, mentor and build capability.
* Experience managing litigation and statutory reviews, including matters arising from the exercise of statutory powers.
* Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government and non‐government stakeholders.
* Experience contributing to the design, delivery and successful implementation of priority projects.
* Experience in a dispute resolution or regulatory environment is desirable.
* Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner with a current practising certificate (or eligibility for certificate).

About the BPC

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing.

It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
