Job Description
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Internet Edge Services (IES) enables optimal connectivity for AWS customers by improving security, availability, performance, and cost. IES builds and operates global decision‐making traffic‐optimization solutions to deliver network experiences that delight customers. Our goal is to simplify the internet, control traffic, and improve performance with minimal human interaction.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop best‐in‐class software systems for automating Amazon's network.
* Provide technical direction to the team and identify areas of focus.
* Create and review software design documentation and mentor junior engineers.
* Collaborate with the Network Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll‐out of new designs and products.
* Operate the software you're putting into production.
* Create and review documentation and processes regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
* Collaborate with the Network Engineering and Operations teams to automate and invent new ways of operating Amazon's Internet Network.
Day in the Life
A Software Development Engineer in IES has a wide range of responsibilities related to global‐scale traffic optimization for our customers. The solutions we build and operate move terabits of traffic to and from the Internet at any given moment, requiring complex solutions to keep capacity ahead of demand. Our engineers develop algorithms and build solutions with partner teams, making day‐to‐day and long‐term strategic decisions that impact all of Amazon's products.
Basic Qualifications
* 3+ years of non‐internship professional software development experience.
* 2+ years of non‐internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
* Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
* 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
* Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
