The Opportunity

The Principal Architect – B2B is accountable for defining, governing and evolving the target-state architecture across the organisation's Business, Enterprise, Government and Wholesale telco segments.

Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Architecture, this role ensures the B2B technology landscape:

* Enables scalable, differentiated solutions for complex customer requirements
* Supports rapid solution configuration and reduced time to revenue
* Minimises total cost of ownership (TCO) through platform reuse and rationalisation
* Meets stringent security, compliance and availability requirements (particularly for Government and regulated customers)
* Aligns to enterprise-wide architecture principles, reusable patterns and simplification objectives

The role provides architectural leadership across B2B BSS platforms, service orchestration, partner ecosystems and network integration domains. It leads a team of 8 architects and ensures architectural integrity across delivery teams supporting multiple customer segments.

What you'll do in the role

The key responsibilities of the role are listed below. These may change in response to your personal growth and business demands.

B2B Architecture Strategy & Target State

* Define and maintain the target-state architecture for Business, Enterprise, Government and Wholesale platforms
* Develop a 2–3 year architecture roadmap aligned to revenue growth, solution innovation and operational efficiency objectives
* Establish scalable architecture models that support complex product bundling, multi-site solutions, managed services and wholesale partnerships
* Contribute to enterprise-wide architecture strategy, ensuring B2B needs are reflected in shared platform decisions

People Leadership & Capability Development

* Lead, coach and develop 8 direct-report architects across key B2B domains (e.g. Order Management, Service Orchestration, Billing, Integration, Network Systems, Security)
* Set clear domain ownership and architectural accountability across segments
* Establish consistent design standards and review processes
* Build a high-performing architecture practice with strong commercial and customer awareness
* Drive succession planning and capability uplift across the team

Complex Solution & Service Architecture

* Architect scalable platforms that support bespoke enterprise solutions without excessive customisation
* Ensure architecture supports complex quoting, contracting, provisioning and assurance workflows
* Enable solution configurability while protecting core platform integrity
* Support advanced services such as SD-WAN, cloud connectivity, unified communications, managed security and private networks

Wholesale & Partner Enablement

* Define API-led and event-driven integration models to support wholesale partners and ecosystem integration
* Ensure architecture supports product exposure, partner ordering, provisioning transparency and service assurance integration
* Drive standardised models that simplify onboarding of new wholesale partners
* Identify duplication across B2B platforms and segments
* Promote reuse of enterprise services and shared capabilities where appropriate
* Reduce technical debt and legacy fragmentation, especially where acquisitions have introduced platform diversity
* Provide clear build vs buy vs partner evaluations grounded in long-term economics

Security, Compliance & Resilience

* Ensure architecture meets high security and compliance obligations, especially for Government and critical infrastructure customers
* Embed zero-trust, identity and data protection principles into B2B solution design
* Design for high availability, geographic redundancy and operational resilience
* Ensure auditability and regulatory compliance across enterprise-grade services

Governance & Investment Alignment

* Act as architectural design authority for major B2B transformation programs and large deal initiatives
* Partner with Commercial and Sales Engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions align to strategic architecture
* Participate in Architecture Review Boards and capital investment governance processes
* Prevent excessive customisation that increases long-term operational cost
* Evaluate emerging technologies relevant to B2B telco (e.g. AI-driven network optimisation, automation, advanced analytics, edge computing, private 5G)
* Identify opportunities to improve delivery efficiency and solution differentiation
* Support structured experimentation aligned to enterprise strategy

Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

* Partner closely with B2B Product, Sales, Commercial, Operations and Network leaders
* Act as trusted technical advisor for major enterprise and government opportunities
* Translate complex architectural trade-offs into clear commercial impacts for senior stakeholders

What you'll bring to the role

* Significant experience in telecommunications with deep exposure to Enterprise, Government and/or Wholesale environments
* Strong knowledge of OSS/BSS platforms supporting complex contracts, managed services and multi-site solutions
* Experience supporting high-value, low-volume and high-complexity customer environments

Architecture & Technical Leadership

* Proven experience leading architecture teams in complex enterprise environments
* Deep understanding of API-led, service-oriented and event-driven architectures
* Experience with service orchestration, order lifecycle management and integration with network domains
* Strong familiarity with cloud-native and hybrid architectures

Security & Compliance Expertise

* Strong understanding of enterprise security, zero-trust principles and regulated customer obligations
* Experience designing high-availability, geographically resilient systems
* Familiarity with critical infrastructure protection and data sovereignty considerations

Commercial & Strategic Acumen

* Strong understanding of B2B revenue drivers (large deals, managed services margins, SLA obligations)
* Ability to balance bespoke enterprise solutioning with platform standardisation
* Demonstrated ability to reduce TCO while enabling revenue growth

Leadership & Influence

* Proven people leadership capability across multiple architecture domains
* Ability to influence senior business, sales and technology leaders
* Experience operating in federated delivery environments
* Strong executive communication and decision-making capability
