Base pay range A$140,000.00/yr - A$200,000.00/yr An exciting role is available for a skilled RF Protocols Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary team focused on anti-drone technologies.
This position centres on designing and optimising RF disruptor systems capable of neutralising evolving unmanned aerial threats in diverse operating environments.
The successful candidate will work across system design, testing, and integration, bringing deep knowledge of RF protocols and signal behaviour to projects with immediate impact.
With a focus on embedded applications, field performance, and cutting-edge analysis, this is an opportunity to help develop world-first solutions in a niche but rapidly expanding domain.
Key Responsibilities: Design, develop and refine RF jamming techniques to mitigate UAS threats Decode and analyse communication protocols to inform jammer development Collaborate across software, hardware, and AI teams to integrate jamming capabilities into mobile and static platforms Tune and optimise RF systems for range, effectiveness, and signal clarity Conduct controlled and live-environment testing to validate system performance Monitor and adapt to changes in drone and communication technologies Use advanced RF lab tools to measure and refine system behaviour Support the broader engineering group with domain expertise in RF and DSP Stay across relevant tech trends and emerging counter-UAS strategies Contribute to the evolution of product designs through feedback and iterative improvement Essential Qualifications and Experience: Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, RF Systems, or Telecommunications 3+ years of hands-on experience in RF engineering, digital signal analysis, or protocol reverse engineering Strong understanding of RF comms systems, including modulation, propagation, and interference control Proficiency in interpreting and applying protocols such as LTE, Wi-Fi, QAM, FSK, FHSS Familiarity with SDRs and real-time signal processing pipelines Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, including VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators Exposure to DSP techniques and translating them into working software/hardware implementations Background in electronic warfare or counter-drone systems Experience with RF geolocation, MIMO, beamforming, or spatial filtering Working knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or C++ for signal data analysis or prototyping Understanding of RF positioning or ranging-based systems Interest in ML applications for RF data processing This is a rare chance to join a high-performance team tackling sophisticated aerial threats with advanced RF engineering.
