Do you have a passion for constructing and maintaining parks and gardens to create a positive impression for the community? This job could be for you

As a Parks Labourer, you will carry out the duties of maintaining and constructing parks and gardens, and other facilities, in a productive and professional manner to create a positive impact on the Southern Downs community and the Region's visitors. You will also be preparing work sites prior to commencement and cleaning up after the completion of the projects, using your horticulture knowledge to design basic landscapes, collecting litter from parks, open spaces, streets and public areas (like carparks), and much more

Term:Casual

Pay Level:$40.68 per hour (Level 3), plus 12% Casual Loading

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick, Queensland

About the Department

The Parks &OperationsDepartment delivers a range of services internally and externally which contribute to the overall service outcomes of Council. As part of the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate, the Department delivers an extremely diverse range of operational field roles including maintenance of Council parks, gardens, buildings and playgrounds. Other services include management of building service contracts, fleet mechanical repairs and supporting grieving families through our cemetery services. The Department also delivers capital works projects for Council buildings, parks and cemeteries, and as part of its field work manages the procurement and disposal of road vehicles and heavy plant operated by Council.

* Construction, maintenance and development of parks and gardens, streetscapes and public areas;
* Cleaning walls, floors and sewerage fixtures in park and public toilets;
* Maintaining any collection vehicle or general vehicle in a clean and tidy condition; and
* Operation of a variety of machinery, small plant, mowers and hand-held power tools.

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

* The legal right to live and work in Australia
* MANDATORY POSITION REQUIREMENTS
* Immunisation record indicating Hepatitis A&B vaccinations or immunity; or the ability to be vaccinated in accordance with Council's Immunisation Procedure
* REQUIRED LICENCES & QUALIFICATIONS
* Current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain;
* A Class C (car) licence or greater; and
* A White Construction Card, or the ability to obtain before commencement
* Proven ability in (and general knowledge of) general garden construction and maintenance, basic horticultural techniques and rudimentary landscape design
* Proven ability to operate and complete preventative maintenance on a variety of hand tools, machinery and mowers related to parks and gardens operations
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively whilst alone and in a small team with limited on-site supervision
* Good communication skills to effectively communicate with Council staff and members of the general public
* To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
