AECOM's Energy practice provides a wide range of services from consulting and engineering design to energy engineering, energy procurement and construction (EPC) for power, energy efficiency and renewable energy clients. Our understanding of the big picture – and the interconnection between generation, distribution, storage and the demand side of the meter – allows us to deliver holistic strategies that improve and modernise next‐generation energy infrastructure.
In this Associate Director leadership role in the Generation and Storage team, you will champion technical excellence, leading owners' engineering and design projects across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). You will engage with clients to develop complex, innovative and varied technical solutions across utility‐scale wind, solar, battery (BESS) and hybrid projects from pre‐feasibility through construction and commissioning.
You will work closely with clients and owners, overseeing documentation across concept, specification development, procurement, design, construction and commissioning, and communicating complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders. Your role includes mentoring junior team members and contributing to the growth of the Generation and Storage teams.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and solutions as Owner's Engineer, ensuring technical assurance and verification.
* Support internal project delivery excellence through technical verification, design governance, risk management and commercial requirements.
* Build client relationships as a trusted advisor, running workshops with client technical teams, external stakeholders and contractors.
* Contribute to business development by developing technical methodologies, resourcing estimates and schedule inputs.
* Support junior team members in planning and developing design and OE documentation, providing quality reviews.
* Collaborate with the local and ANZ‐wide Generation and Storage teams to mentor and develop technical skills.
* Represent AECOM's technical expertise within the global technical specialist network.
* Champion delivery excellence and governance, maintaining high standards of quality, safety, digital innovation and client satisfaction.
* Lead by example in collaboration and operational efficiency, driving continuous improvement and accountability.
Qualifications and Experience
* 15+ years of renewable engineering experience, preferably with an electrical engineering background.
* Proven ability to manage projects from concept to delivery, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.
* Registration on the National Engineering Register in Australia (e.g., RPEV or RPEQ) and preferably a Chartered Professional Engineer designation.
* Strong client relationship and interpersonal skills, capable of building trusted advisory relationships.
* Commercial judgement and pragmatism, understanding design and build cost, risk and schedule considerations.
* Passion for mentoring and developing others' renewable engineering technical abilities.
