The company turns over $50m per annum and is looking for continued year-on-year growth in the coming years ahead and is currently at an exciting growth phase.

Purpose of the Position:

Our client is looking to engage with an established, experienced and energetic person within the construction industry to take on a leadership role to lead and direct operational innovation within the project management and construction team.

The role will establish rigour and accountability across all project financial forecasting, program management and OHSEQ processes to assist the business in being able to take on increasingly complex & larger projects in the public domain.

This role will suit an established and career-focused construction professional who is a dynamic and lateral thinker, with a depth of experience in managing a team.

The Head of Construction is a member of the Leadership Team with direct responsibility for the on-time and on-budget delivery of projects to achieve & exceed client expectations and to sustain continual growth of the company's key financial metrics.

The role offers future growth opportunities into the ELT team by improving and simplifying the collaboration between Pre-Construction, Design and Construction teams, driving initiatives that enhance teamwork and deliver better results.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
* Lead project teams to continually meet, and where possible exceed, expectations, whilst ensuring the construction process is controlled and adheres to strict safety, quality, programme, and financial objectives.
* Managing the construction team where there are typically anywhere from 10-20 projects in construction concurrently (Project values range from $300k to $15m each, with an average project value of $2m).
* Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve and exceed expected outcomes for the client.
* Direct the tracking and control of construction schedules and associated costs for achieving project completion within the budget and time allotted.
* Ensure accountability of all project activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of financial deliverables and obligations, taking effective remedial action as required through the weekly project review process.
* Hold Project Managers accountable to the financial outcomes of each project, including budget management and revenue/cost forecasting.
* Provide leadership and management to the delivery team and inspire direction and drive change by motivating team members to meet or exceed project targets, including project program and margins.
* Conduct regular project debriefs, identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement.
* Negotiate terms of agreements, review and sign contracts and obtain permits and licences.
* Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across leadership.
* Building a high-performance team through mentoring, completing performance reviews and developing training programs.
* Determine needs and ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards across the delivery team operations to meet ISO and IMS standards.
Contribution to business performance:
* Meeting forecasts consistently.
* Compliance with regulatory and company policy requirements.
* Identification and realisation of margin and program efficiencies.
* Quality of constructed outcomes, ensuring that the company builds and maintains a positive client market reputation.
* Injury-free operations through development and adherence to safe work practices.
* Building up the young talent in the business, via training and empowerment.
* Create a contingency plan needed for key roles on the team, and ensure key players are retained
* Support Marketing with time-sensitive material for social marketing and PR, where appropriate.
* Support revenue generation by being involved strategically in key projects during the bid process.
Role Requirements:
* Highly motivated and dynamic lateral thinker.
* High levels of construction knowledge
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and inspire effective project teams to drive transformational change.
* Extensive construction experience, minimum 15 years in Project/Construction Management, including construction planning and management, managing multi-disciplined teams, budgeting and planning, procurement, risk management, client management, dispute/issue resolution.
* Ability to execute on business priorities (meeting program commitments) and being margin hungry.
* A true valuation of quality and won't settle for anything less than a job well done.
* A strong focus and commitment to the customer experience
* Not afraid of accountability, of oneself, and holding others to it.
* Deliver what/when they say they will (meet the commitments they make to others).
* Not afraid to put their hand up.
* Doesn't hide behind others (or let others hide behind/cover) with excuses.
* Ability to have the tough conversations when something needs to be tabled.
* Team player – not just with their own team but with the wider colleagues within the business and other teams also.
* Experience with Jonas Premier and MS Project would be highly advantageous
