Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is now recruiting for Senior Clinical Advisors in our Emergency Operations Centres (999) based in Wakefield and York.

Here at Yorkshire Ambulance Service we have exciting developments and opportunities lined up over the next few years and are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to assist with these changes.

We are currently only recruiting clinicians who are NMC RN1 or HCPC Paramedic registered. We do not accept NMC PRN Pin as it does not fulfil the essential criteria for the role.

Internal Paramedic Applicants: You can choose to work 100% as an EOC Senior Clinical Advisor or opt for a rotational role spending 5 weeks in your A&E operational role and 5 weeks in EOC. Your preference will be requested during the application process. Please note - This vacancy is only for Wakefield & York call centres. Remote Hub vacancies will be advertised separately when available.

Training: You will commence your role on a training contract until successful completion of your training, following this you will then be moved onto a permanent contract. We do not have any home working opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Clinical Advisor is responsible for the assessment of health and clinical needs, utilising evidence-based practice, professional clinical judgement, supported by decision support software, to achieve appropriate safe clinical outcomes for our patients.

This requires generalist and specialist skills as a healthcare professional to assess and deliver care to patients.

Applicants should have experience in emergency care, assessment of high acuity symptoms, a broad knowledge of conditions and an understanding of red flag symptoms and consequence.

As a Senior Clinical Advisor, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following key skills:

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Work with a variety of clinical specialists to ensure safe clinical processes for patients
* The ability to make quick safe clinical decisions under pressure and the ability to assess and identify red flag symptoms and conditions
* Undertake referrals to internal and external clinicians
* You will provide a medical assessment, medication advice, health information and implement care packages to a range of individuals, liaising with other agencies and healthcare providers, as necessary.

Job responsibilities

To be successful in this role you should be a registered professional (for example, a registered Nurse or Paramedic) and have experience of undertaking clinical assessment within an acute or primary care setting.

Please note: We do offer part time roles however the training and mentorship period is full time for 7 weeks.

Assessment and Interview Information

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING Assessment and Interview Information If you are successful at the shortlisting stage, you will be invited to attend an in‐person assessment on 14 April 2026 at Wakefield HQ. Candidates will be required to pass both a telephone triage assessment and a short clinical‐based assessment. If successful at the assessment stage, you will then be invited back to an in‐person interview on either 21st or 22nd April, also at Wakefield HQ. Please note: If you are unable to attend on these dates, we kindly ask that you wait and apply in the next recruitment round, as alternative interview dates or remote interviews cannot be accommodated. If you have previously applied and were unsuccessful at the assessment or interview stage you must wait three months before reapplying. Any applications submitted within three months of an unsuccessful outcome will be automatically withdrawn. Interview shortlisting is based on the same criteria used in the previous recruitment cycle. We therefore strongly recommend allowing a minimum of three months to further develop your skills and experience to improve your chances of success in future recruitment rounds.

Person Specification

Knowledge & education

* Registered Professional (RN1 or HPC or equivalent professional qualification) with current valid registration

Skills and abilities

* Knowledge and competence in keyboard and IT skills to access databases and varying computer software programmes.
* Able to assess and manage clinical risk appropriately
* Understanding of audit, evaluation and clinical governance

Experience & work achievements

* Minimum 2 years post qualification experience in acute or primary care settings with experience of clinical assessment.
* Experience of telephone triage
* Experience of undertaking a mentoring role

Personal Attributes

* Adaptability to changing and developing processes and procedures
* Must be able to deal with a demanding workload and be calm under pressure
