JOB DESCRIPTION
The GIS Specialist Architect will lead the design and integration of PX4’s “map-first” application architecture. This role ensures the map becomes the central point of interaction for users, enabling advanced querying, analytics, and workflows directly from geospatial layers. The architect will design scalable and secure GIS systems tightly integrated with PX4’s API Gateway and core tenement management platform, ensuring high-performance mapping experiences across global jurisdictions.

- Job Number : GIS Solutions Architect and Lead Developer (Mid-Level)
- Reporting to : Product Manager & General Manager
- Salary : $120,000 – $130,000 AUD per Annum based on experience.
- Hours : Full-time, 5 days a week with assisted overtime where required.
- Location : PX4 are open to applicants based anywhere in the world, with occasional travel required for team meetings and project reviews.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONISBILITIES
- Architect and implement a “map-first” user experience within PX4, making maps the central navigation, query, and workflow tool.
- Design intuitive map-driven queries that allow users to interact directly with parcels, tenements, and spatial layers.
- Ensure seamless integration of GIS layers with PX4 application workflows (e.g., applications, objections, audits, compliance).
- Geospatial Development
- Lead design and optimisation of geospatial services (ArcGIS, GeoServer, Azure Maps, Mapbox, OpenLayers).
- Build and maintain spatial APIs and endpoints in PX4 Gateway for querying and managing millions of records.
- Implement caching, tiling, and indexing strategies to ensure sub-second load and query times for large spatial datasets.
Data Integration & Security
- Define pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, and transforming multi-jurisdictional mining datasets.
- Ensure alignment with ISO 27001 and data governance standards, with evidence of monitoring and access control.
- Maintain metadata standards and audit trails for all spatial data integrations.
- Work with product managers to define map-first user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Mentor development teams on spatial data performance, visualisation best practices, and secure integration.
- Act as PX4’s GIS subject matter expert in client and government workshops, ensuring PX4 maps meet regulatory and industry needs.

Technical Expertise
- Robust skills in geospatial queries, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Ability to translate complex GIS concepts into product-ready features.
- Strong stakeholder communication to align client needs with product strategy.
- Leadership in Agile and DevOps environments with global delivery requirements.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s in GIS, Geospatial Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent Qualification
- 7+ years’ GIS software and architecture experience, including enterprise-scale integrations.
- Proven success in designing map-driven user interfaces and query-driven spatial workflows.
- Experience delivering secure, ISO-aligned solutions on Azure or other cloud platforms.
- Exposure to mining, exploration, or land management industries desirable but not essential.
