Responsibilities
The Chief Executive Officer is central to the leadership and performance of both Councils and their communities. The role will oversee organisational operations and ensure the effective delivery of services to residents across our municipalities. The position is responsible for managing people and financial resources, providing clear strategic direction, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver Council priorities. The Chief Executive Officer will work closely with the Mayor and Councillors of each Council and serve as a trusted and professional advisor. The position oversees the organisation's finances, staff and assets. This includes preparing budgets and long-term plans, managing resources responsibly and ensuring public money is used appropriately. The Chief Executive Officer also ensures Council meets its legislative and reporting requirements and operates within contemporary governance practices.
The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications and bring executive leadership experience gained within complex service environments, ideally local government. They will demonstrate the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, thoughtfully align services to community needs and foster a positive, high-performing culture, supported by sound financial, risk and policy capability. An understanding of the Tasmanian Local Government context — including legislative and community considerations — and experience working collaboratively with a Mayor and Councillors will be highly valued.
Qualifications
