Temporary Payroll Officer for a well-established organisation in the Illawarra

A well‑established organisation is seeking a Payroll Officer to join their People & Culture team. Working across multiple Australian and international entities, the organisation is known for its supportive culture, strong values, and commitment to delivering high‑quality payroll and HR services. Due to increased operational demand, they are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to support both day‑to‑day processing and broader People & Culture administration.Your new role
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will provide high‑quality, customer‑focused payroll services. You will be the first point of contact for employee queries and play a key role in delivering accurate, efficient end‑to‑end payroll support. Your responsibilities will include:
* Processing end‑to‑end fortnightly payroll for Australian entities, including timesheet review, roster entry and out‑of‑cycle payments
* Managing shared inboxes and responding to enquiries, including system queries and password resets
* Ensuring accurate data entry, updates to employee records, and maintaining data integrity across payroll and P&C systems
* Administering allowances, deductions, reimbursements, and overpayment recovery
* Supporting executive and overseas payroll processing, including payroll tax calculations and end‑of‑year tasks
* Providing general People & Culture support such as onboarding updates, contract changes, employee benefit administration, and teacher leave/entitlement calculations
* Participating in payroll audits, compliance activities, and ensuring alignment with legislation, company policy and internal controls
* Assisting with process improvement initiatives and ad‑hoc reporting
This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys variety and working in a small, collaborative team.What you'll need to succeed
* Strong experience in payroll including end‑to‑end payroll processing
* Ability to interpret Awards, legislation, and employment-related frameworks
* High level communication and stakeholder service skills
* Ability to work with discretion, maintain strict confidentiality and meet tight deadlines
* Strong attention to detail, resilience, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environment
