Role and Facility Information
The Division of General Surgery in Victoria is seeking 2 full-time colleagues to join our group of 16 General Surgeons on southern Vancouver Island.
The positions will include a mix of general surgery, acute care surgery, endoscopy, and trauma surgery.
Island Health South Island is an integrated tertiary care health complex that includes three acute care hospitals: Royal Jubilee Hospital (500 beds), Victoria General Hospital (414 beds), and Saanich Peninsula Hospital (48 beds). It also includes one daycare surgery and endoscopy centre, the South Island Surgical Centre. This health complex serves as the regional trauma center for Vancouver Island, with a referral population of over 400,000 and a tertiary catchment population of more than 900,000.
Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital each have an ACS service with protected emergency daytime operating resources, resident and medical student involvement, and associate physician support. Call responsibilities are shared equally amongst all members of the division.
Together with Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, which serves as the other regional trauma center for the island, trauma services manage approximately 1,500 patients annually. There is a dedicated trauma unit and outpatient clinic services at VGH, as well as a robust performance improvement and patient safety program. Remuneration for clinical trauma services is provided via an Alternative Payment Plan (APP).
The successful candidate will hold FRCSC certification and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
The Following Are Considered Requirements For Hire
* Completion of a fellowship in or extensive professional experience in Acute Care Surgery and/or Trauma Surgery
* Administrative experience in trauma systems development
* Experience leading clinical quality assessment and quality improvement initiatives
* Experience leading clinical pathway and clinical practice guidelines development
* Experience in surgical education
The successful candidate will have an obligation to teach undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners and lead or participate in clinical research projects. An academic appointment through UBC is available to qualified applicants.

Compensation
Compensation Type: Combination of fee for service for General Surgery and ACS, and salary for Trauma Surgery. Level 1 MOCAP provided for each service.
