**About the Role**
The Head of Credit will manage the operational and delivery of key operating tools and programs that are focused on building and enhancing the capability of the Credit Operations teams to achieve optimum efficiency and effectiveness to support the vision and goals of Teachers Mutual Bank Limited.
As a member of TMBL's Senior Management team you will be responsible for the overall credit assessment functionality for the bank with a focus on planning activities to achieve strategic business objectives.
Through the efforts of your various teams, you will ensure our Lending portfolios are efficient, effective, competitive and that the bank has compliant processing and delivery of all credit products and services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff.
**About You**
- Manages and documents the business directives and operational processes and procedures by directing, coordinating, and monitoring activities to implement TMBL policies, procedures, and practices concerning granting or extending lines of credit, commercial loans, housing loans, and consumer credit loans
- Assists with the formulation of sound and constructive policies and procedures in relation to all credit products and services which contributes to the overall profitability of Teachers Mutual Bank
- Develops, maintains and manages an operational risk and compliance framework for Credit Operations
- Ensures controls are in place to mitigate and eliminate operational risks in Credit Operations by ensuring compliance to internal policy and external legislation and highlighting key issues/areas ensuring the management of corrective action items are developed to address any inherent risks.
- Investigates and coordinates the development of system improvements to increase efficiencies including managing the development and integrity of any loans processing software.
- Prepare business plans as required that reflect the goals of Teachers Mutual Bank's Strategic Plan and monitors progress on an ongoing basis to ensure successful completion.
- Conducts staff meetings of credit operations personnel or confers with subordinate personnel to discuss operational problems or explain procedural changes or practices.
- Negotiates and maintains relationships with third party suppliers for the operational requirements of Credit Operations ensuring agreed service standards are maintained and any service issues are addressed in a timely manner according to the banks' vendor governance policies.
- Identifies the impact of regulatory changes impacting the department, providing detailed analysis of these changes and provide SME advice in the development of change/ projects as well as assisting in developing and updating departmental policy and frameworks which leads to ensuring the ongoing compliance with relevant government legislation including, but not limited to, the National Consumer Credit Code, PEXA, Contracts Review Act, Fair Trading Act, State Stamp Duty Acts, Land and Property Titles Act, PPSR, EFT Code, National Privacy Principles, Credit Reporting and Fraud prevention, FSR, Occupational Health and Safety, Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity.
- Supervision and monitoring of staff to ensure they act within their level of authority and meet legal obligations outlined in relevant legislation including FSR, Code of Practice, FTRA, OH&S, EEO, etc.
- Ensures high quality change outcomes are achieved through execution of a consistent Change Management methodology across the department ensuring staff are included in planning and decision making and work towards building staff satisfaction by encouraging growth and development of skills and knowledge.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable for ensuring sectional documentation is compliant with Teachers Mutual Bank's standards and organisational needs. Takes appropriate action to ensure documentation is up to date, maintained, reviewed regularly and published to the appropriate intranet area.
- Identifies areas requiring process improvement and implements strategies to streamline processes on an ongoing basis. Owns and manages risk and compliance across your business unit.
- Applies the Three Lines of Defense Risk Management and Assurance Model to deliver effective risk and compliance governance across your business unit
**Qualifications & Skills**
- Tertiary qualifications in an operational management discipline
- Diploma in Mortgage Lending or an equivalent banking qualification
- Minimum 10 years credit experience with a minimum 5 years' experience in a senior lending/leadership role Qualifications and skills to be the Responsible Manager for Lending according to APRA guidelines.
