With a strong focus on sustainability and economic development, the City of Salisbury is committed to creating opportunities that enhance liveability and prosperity across the northern region The Role: The Team Leader Community Compliance plays a key leadership role in overseeing the delivery of regulatory and compliance services across the City of Salisbury. You will drive strategic direction for the Community Compliance function, offering expert professional advice and high-level decision-making to protect public safety, environmental quality and community amenity. The role is responsible for ensuring strong governance, legislative compliance, risk management and alignment with Council's strategic priorities. As the senior specialist in community compliance, you will work closely with senior management, elected members, internal stakeholders and external agencies, providing authoritative advice on complex and emerging regulatory matters. You will also contribute to planning, coordination and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service effectiveness and uphold high professional standards. Key Responsibility Lead, develop and support the Community Compliance team, ensuring high performance, professionalism and accountability. Manage complex, high-risk and sensitive compliance matters with significant autonomy and judgement. Oversee delivery of regulatory services including investigations, enforcement, education programs and pound operations. Develop and implement compliance strategies, operational plans, policies and procedures. Provide authoritative advice to senior leaders, elected members and internal stakeholders Lead complex investigations, prepare briefs of evidence and liaise with legal representatives. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, by-laws, delegations and governance frameworks. Identify emerging risks and develop proactive strategies to address current and future compliance challenges. Skill & Competencies: Tertiary qualifications in regulatory services, local government, public administration, law enforcement, management or similar; or extensive senior experience in a regulatory environment. Significant experience in community compliance or regulatory enforcement, ideally within local government. Proven leadership capability, including performance management, coaching and capability development. Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. High-level communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement. Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Dog and Cat Management Act, Road Traffic Act, Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act, Local Government Act, Council By-laws and other prescribed legislation. Experience managing competing priorities across multiple service areas. Why join us?
