The role
Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, Clinical Excellence Division, you will be apart of a multi-disciplinary executive leadership team responsible for providing state-wide strategy leadership and medical guidance on a broad range of themes. This is a unique opportunity for an innovative and forward-thinking clinical executive, your focus as the Chief Medical Officer will be on supporting Hospital and Health Services and other clinical service providers in resolving complex, ethical and operational challenges. You will also provide Medical Workforce representation at the State and National level to engage and support medical workforce development.
**You will also**:
- Partnering with Chief Professional Officers to drive the implementation of strategic and operational initiatives
- Provide Medical Workforce representation at State and National level to engage and support medical workforce development by developing key relationships with Universities, Professional Colleges and Industrial partners and assist with the development and sponsorship of appropriate education and training models
- Contribute to implementation of the Queensland Health strategic agenda
- Champion and support research across Queensland Health as outlined in Queensland Advancing Health Research 2026
- Remain up to date with the latest research findings and therapeutic interventions
- Act as the Senior Responsible Officer under the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act
The successful person
**You will have**:
- A degree in Medicine (MBBS or equivalent) from a registered tertiary institution
- Fellowship of an Australian Medical Specialist College
- Unrestricted General and Specialist registration as a medical officer with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Having an ongoing active clinical role will be highly regarded.
- A minimum of five (5) year's senior healthcare leadership experience, would be well regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical trials, including an understanding of and experience in translational research, with a sound knowledge of the conduct of clinical trials to International standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in the Australian context and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research so as to promote responsible research practices and integrity in research would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in policy consultation, development and implementation would be beneficial for this role.
