Deputy Principal | Classroom Teacher | Education Assistant
Hensman Street Elementary is a registered independent micro-school located in South Perth. Our school is built on relationships, belonging, and deeply human approaches to learning. We work from a place of connection first – understanding that children learn best when they feel safe, seen, and valued. Our pedagogy is centred on play, inquiry, and personalised learning pathways that honour each child's unique development and identity.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking educators who share our commitment to nurturing autonomy, curiosity, and wellbeing. We are currently inviting applications for three roles commencing in Term 1, 2026:
1. Deputy Principal (Part Time, Ongoing)
The Deputy will work closely with the Principal to guide the school's vision, pedagogy, and day-to-day operations.
· Key Responsibilities:
· Leading and mentoring staff in relational, strengths-based and trauma-informed practice.
· Supporting the development and documentation of personalised learning plans.
· Coordinating communication with families and external support agencies.
· Supporting regulatory compliance, professional learning, and school improvement strategies.
· Contributing actively to school culture and community events.
· Desired Attributes & Experience:
· Demonstrated leadership in relational or child-centred education environments.
· Understanding of play-based, inquiry and slow pedagogy.
· Strong interpersonal communication and reflective practice capabilities.
· Minimum Bachelor of Education; postgraduate leadership experience desirable.
2. Classroom Teacher (Full Time/Part Time Considered)
Teaching roles at Hensman Street Elementary are collaborative, reflective, and grounded in co-design with students.
· Key Responsibilities:
· Designing learning engagements that emerge from children's interests and inquiry.
· Implementing pedagogy that prioritises wellbeing, voice, choice and collaboration.
· Documenting learning through observations, portfolios and family communication.
· Working within a multi-age learning environment.
· Desired Attributes & Experience:
· Skilled in inquiry, project-based, trauma informed, slow pedagogy.
· Ability to co-regulate and support emotional development.
· Bachelor of Education (Early childhood or Primary)
· Limited registration would be considered.
3. Education Assistant (Part Time or Full Time Considered)
The Education Assistant works side-by-side with teachers to create calm, responsive and engaging learning environments.
· Key Responsibilities:
· Assisting with daily learning invitations, play environments and transitions.
· Supporting children's emotional and social development.
· Observing and documenting learning and interactions.
· Contributing to collaborative planning discussions.
· Desired Attributes & Experience:
· Experience with children in early or primary settings.
· Capacity to support sensation, movement, and autonomy in learning.
· Relevant Certificate or Diploma desirable.
