About the Role
The Area Officer (Rural) Preston is an operational position based in Bunbury at the Southwest Regional Office.
The role reports to the District Officer (Rural) Wellington, as part of the rural operations portfolio.
This position is the responsible manager for the Shires of Capel, Dardanup and the City of Bunbury.
Other responsibilities include the effective management of human, physical, financial and information resources to achieve prevention, preparedness, response and recovery outcomes to aid and benefit the community of WA.
The position will additionally be required to work in an advisory capacity to volunteers and Local Government in policy, financial, operational and mitigation matters; as well as providing training and assessment in relation to emergency service volunteers such as Bushfire Brigades and Volunteer Fire & Emergency Services Units across the region.
Furthermore, the role also has responsibilities and supports the development of regional fire mitigation and management plans, including facilitating mitigation activities including prescribed burn operations.
Position Pre-Requisites
Possession of a Western Australian Medium Rigid Driver's License.
Accredited Level 1 Incident Controller or Endorsed DFES Level 1 Incident Controller in hazards relevant to fire.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DFES is an emergency services organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies and additional allowances may apply.
Employees in this position participate in an on call roster, will be required to attend emergency incidents and undertake regular intrastate travel (by air and/or road).
