The Driller's Offsider plays a crucial role in supporting the efficient and safe operation of drilling projects. This position involves hands-on labour, equipment operation, and adherence to safety protocols. The ideal candidate is a physically fit, reliable, and motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Driller in setting up and operating drilling rigs and associated equipment, requiring a valid MR Driver's License.
Handle and connect augers, drill rods, casing, and other drilling components.
Mix drilling fluids and muds according to specifications.
Monitor drilling progress and assist in troubleshooting operational issues.
Maintain accurate records of drilling activities.
Assist in the development or decommission of wells.
Assist in the recovery of soil samples.
Perform routine maintenance and inspections of drilling equipment.
Clean and lubricate equipment and vehicles as required.
Identify and report equipment malfunctions to the Driller.
Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
Prepare drilling sites by clearing obstructions and levelling the ground.
Maintain a clean and organised work area.
Assist with the restoration of drilling sites upon project completion.
Assist in the installation of pumps and wellhead equipment.
Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
Identify and report potential safety hazards.
Follow all environmental regulations.
Perform general labour duties as assigned, including lifting, carrying, and digging.
Assist with the transportation of materials and equipment.
Work in various weather conditions.
Assist with the sampling of water and/or soil.
Assist with backfills of boreholes and/or wells.
Qualifications and Skills
Previous experience as a Driller's Offsider or in a similar hands-on role within the mining, resources or construction industry is advantageous.
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment are highly regarded.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
A commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a tight-knit team.
MR-B or MR Unrestricted Driver's License (or working towards is essential).
Forklift License (or working towards is essential).
Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol test.
National Police Clearance within 6 months (or ability to obtain one).
First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willing to obtain).
